RESVERATROL DETOXIFICATION AND WEIGHT LOSS
Resveratrol has proven to support the body’s natural antioxidant systems involved in detoxification, such as the Phase II liver detoxification pathway. It also boosts the strength of gastrointestinal glutathione peroxidase, an enzyme whose main role is to protect the organism from oxidative damage. But this is not all: Resveratrol is known to activate the SIRT1 enzyme in humans. When active, this enzyme ”tells” body cells to break down stored fat, increasing energy levels and detoxifying the organism. This happens naturally when on a calorie restricted diet, but Resveratrol concentrate mimics the effect.

GRAPES, RED WINE AND RESVERATROL
Resveratrol is a natural compound produced by plants in response to fungal infections, injury, stress and UV radiation. It’s considered part of their natural “defense system”, protecting the plant’s delicate tissue from illness and disease. This element can be found in the stems, leaves and skins of red grapes. Thus, red wine has high levels of Resveratrol, specially those that go trough long fermentation processes.
Studies investigating the benefits of red wine revealed that drinking moderate amounts reduces the risk of heart disease in middle aged people by up to 50%. Scientists came upon this connection while studying what they call “the French paradox”: They wondered why the French have less coronary disease and cancer rates, when a typical French diet is often rich in saturated fat. Researchers concluded that the Resveratrol in red wine was responsible for the drink’s protective effects on human health. Among its benefits, Resveratrol decreases inflammation, helping prevent the fibrotic changes that toxins cause in the body, specially the lungs. An increased function of the mitochondria within the cells has also been reported, which in turn accelerates fat-burning, with a faster cell recovery and escalating endurance. X3Resveratrol contains as much Resveratrol as 100 glasses of red wine, without the calories that alcohol can add to the waistline.

RESVERATROL STUDIES
Several agents affect our bodies every day. Among them, there are some unstable molecules called free radicals. They are generated by normal body processes such as breathing and digestion, and also from exposure to pollution, toxins and UV radiation. Free radicals attack healthy cells, damaging important parts of their structure, as well as proteins, membranes and DNA. Free radical damage to cells is associated with a variety of health complications, including immune issues. It's also believed to play an important part in the aging process and has been linked to the development of cardiovascular disease. Resveratrol counter-effects this oxidative damage, protecting the organs and increasing energy and vitality at the same time.
In 1997, Science magazine published a study on Resveratrol’s effects on the health of obese mice.
This study, held by David Sinclair (from Harvard Medical School), uncovered several benefits that can be enjoyed from the consumption of this Resveratrol:

THURSDAY, Oct. 1 (HealthDay News) -- In a possible advance toward a treatment for aging in people, researchers report that by genetically modifying mice, they reduced their susceptibility to age-related disease and expanded the lifespan of female mice by 19 percent.
Scientists have known for decades that taking in fewer calories can extend lifespan in some animals, but they have yet to figure out why that is so. In this new study, published in the Oct. 2 issue of Science, researchers manipulated mouse genes so they wouldn't produce a protein known as S6K1, thereby mimicking the effects of a strict diet.

Bright Foods Are Best, New Studies Show
By Nissa Simon
Some of the brightest summer foods are packed with the most powerful health benefits. Phytochemicals, potent compounds that occur naturally in fruits and vegetables, may help you shed belly fat, slow the aging process, prevent disease, improve your skin and protect your heart.
Scientists are just learning that they provide benefits beyond those offered by vitamins and minerals and may help safeguard cells and tissues from damage. Research even shows they may fight infection and guard your memory.
“The evidence has never been more compelling that a healthy diet can slow down age-related changes that lead to chronic disease, and it’s never too late to start,” says Jeffrey Blumberg, director of the Antioxidants Research Laboratory at Tufts University.
The names of these phytochemicals are a tongue-twisting babel. Tea contains polyphenols; tomatoes are rich in lycopene; grapes have an abundance of resveratrol; broccoli bulges with sulforaphane; dark green leaves like spinach and kale contain lutein and zeaxanthin to help, protect your eyes. The list goes on.
Because fruits, vegetables and other plant foods such as legumes, nuts, whole grains and tea are complex mixtures of nutrients, scientists are pretty sure that phytochemicals don’t act in isolation but work their magic in tandem with other substances found in food. Although we have the knowledge to manufacture pills isolating the ingredients we want, the science is new enough that we don’t yet know what we’re leaving out.
So next time you’re at the market, go for the bright colors, which often pack more of a nutritional wallop than their pale cousins. Reach for fruits and vegetables like watermelon, carrots, mangoes and squash. Nab a bunch of broccoli, pick up some red and green peppers. Oftentimes, the brighter they are, the better for your health, though there are exceptions. New studies looking at mushrooms and garlic, for example, find that eating these earthy foods gives health benefits as well.

Aging gracefully is an Individual Affair
By WL Reidhead
Aging is inevitable but our approach to aging is an individual affair. When my grandparents were my age now; I thought they were ancient, however, now that age doesn’t seem old at all. In today’s world age is only a number because everywhere you look there are people living the good life even though they are in their advanced years. Graceful aging is strictly an individual affair. I’d like to offer some helpful tips about becoming the best we can be.
The current mainstream thought is that “today’s 50 year old is yesterdays 30 year old”. This statement is true in many different ways. Our current mindset and approach to life is so much different than generations before.
Everywhere you look you can see older people challenging the concept that growing older is connected to feebleness. A perfect example is Dara Torres and her stunning performance during the 2008 Olympics at Beijing, China.
She won three silver medals and set three American records in the 50 meter free style, 400 meter free- relay and the 400 meter med-relay. She was the first American to swim in five Olympics. Her age at the time of the 2008 Olympics was 41; she was competing against youngsters half her age. If you missed the competition you missed some truly inspiring moments. She ignored negative thoughts and naysayers; she pushed forward and did what she knew she could do.
Aging gracefully is not a challenge but it is a way of life. We must understand that by being able to reach the milepost of what is considered entering the golden age; we are all winners! We have survived sickness, disease and sometimes our own stupidity to reach our present age. It reminds me of the saying “if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself”.
To continue the coming years gracefully we need to begin taking care of ourselves and there are many areas that we need to identify. I’ll try to hit on some that I consider most important. They include establishing a healthy mindset, a healthy lifestyle and keeping active.
Healthy mindset means being thankful for everything we have and deciding to be the best we can and having fun. Remember; it is not the number of years you live but it is the amount of living you cram into your years. Fill each day with joy and have as much fun as possible.
Healthy lifestyle is composed of several things and they include:
A. Diet:
We need to concentrate on what we eat and watch our weight. Eat healthy and learn about portion sizes.
B. Strength training:
Loss of strength and muscle mass as we age is considered normal but again; this is an individual matter. The basic truth about muscle is evident “use it or lose it”.
An ongoing activity for muscle strengthening that involves all the major muscle groups need to be made a part of our lives. To be able to move in a youthful manner and remain independent requires us to have decent muscles throughout our bodies.
C. Cardio and aerobic exercise:
Our body is nothing that we should take for granted. It is what has carried us through our years and has gotten us to this point in time and we need to take care of it.
Our heart and lungs must be cared for and you need to take the necessary steps to make an exercise program of your everyday life.
D. Habits:
These include what we have incorporated into our lives over the years. We need to do everything in moderation and this includes smoking, drinking and any other thing that is detrimental to our well being.
A real truth is if you have any bad habits; the only way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit. At this point in your life I am not going to lecture you but do everything in moderation. Moderation is the word.
One habit to incorporate into your life is to become active with other people. Take the time to be with your friends and take the time to make new friends.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that aging is an individual affair and we can go with the flow and do it gracefully or we can hate the world because we are getting older. I think it is better to have people think of me as a fun loving type of person than an old grumpy codger.
